Hey Leo it’s great that you’ve founded this site. I recommend reading Stephen King’s book “On Writing.” I just read it recently, and one thing that really shone through was his love for writing. At one point he says for him writing is an “I wanna” sort of thing, not a “I hafta.” So I’d just add that it’s important to remind yourself of that despite holding yourself to things you hafta do. You hafta because you wanna. So to speak.

    Thanks guys!

@Max: yes, I love King’s On Writing! I’m planning on doing a review sometime. Thanks for the comment!

  4. I’ve been trying to get into the habit of writing (and posting) on my blog everyday for some time now, but what has really helped me is blog365, a group writing project/challenge like NaNoWriMo or NaBloMo, where everyone is attempting to do a blog post every day for a year. Having the group challenge thing is a great way to stay motivated and keeps me honest, knowing that there is a group of people attempting it along with me.

Thanks for starting this blog. I like to write and my head is sometimes filled with ideas. I just need to develop them. Writing is a hobby that i have always set on the “back burner”. I am looking forward to following this blog and getting started on the road to writing. So this is my public commitment. The first one…. I will write something everyday.

I will check back when I have a personal blog set up.

    Thanks again for the inspiration

  6. Great article, and another great site!
For me, I found getting into the writing habit was easiest when I started blogging. I was doing one post each day up until this week, and I started doing that in October. I started blogging on September 27 of last year.
I still write every day, but I now have other outlets for it, besides the blog (which I love doing, and will continue to do, but not every day).
I think having that accountability, knowing someone expects to read an article of yours, is great incentive to keep writing. And your writing can only improve with the practice.

  7. I always wanted to be a writer. I always thought the writing part got in the way. I guess I should try making a habit of it. Maybe that will make me a writer.

  8. The most frustrating thing for me as a new writer is that, while I know I want to write an article, getting it from my head to my keyboard without losing the point is tough.

Each day I’ll think of at least 2 posts I want to write, but will only get round to completing 1 every couple of days because I give up half way through. Frustrating. Maybe a habit is just what I need.

    Thanks for the tips.

  9. Good article. Thanks. Because there is more to writing than “just do it”.

    Dear Leo:

I am writing from northern Mexico, from a city you’ve never hear about, in the middle of the desert, just to say thank you for all the inspiration. Now I am writing my novel and someday it will see the light.

    Thanks

  12. Excellent tips, Leo! Sorry I missed ‘em on the first go-round.

Here’s another factoid to go along with your 1st section: If you write just 350 words a day, you will finish a 100,000 word novel in a year.

  14. No Remorse Whatever

I have no remorse whatever. I love having ruined members of my family. Can you give me advice?
