Only thirteen days remain to submit for the FieldReport $250,000 Grand Prize!
On January 5th, 2009 a single true-life story of 2,000 words or less will be named the winner of the FieldReport $250,000 Grand Prize. As far as we can tell, this is the world’s largest prize for a single piece of writing. There is no entry fee, but time is running out because all submissions for the Grand Prize contest must be received by November 15th 2008.
For those of you who don’t know, FieldReport is a dynamic new web community for writers based on true life stories. Users submit their stories and rate the stories of others using a patent pending Community Ranking System that selects essays based on quality rather than popularity. If you are unfamiliar with the workings of FieldReport, it’s probably best to start with the Quick Start Guide.
After November 15th, 60 qualifiers are chosen and will be pared down in runoffs over the following 6 weeks until the final winner is announced.
If winning a lot of money tickles your fancy, try submitting in a category that has fewer submissions to increase your chances of qualifying for the final rounds. Some categoires like the Sports + Challenge, Breaking News, and Adult Experience have very few submissions and are ripe for your exploitation.
Since launching in July, FieldReport has already given away $90,000 in prizes for personal essays in anticipation of the Grand Prize. In addition to the grand prize, several other prizes are available including $25,000 scholarship that will go to the best teen submission on TeenReport.
Are you skeptical? Understandably so! $250,000 is a ludicrous number. Some writers have expressed concerns that they’ll unfairly lose the rights to their work. FieldReport CEO William Petty has worked with writers to make this process as transparent and fair as possible. Please see the links below if you still have any doubts to the site’s legitimacy.
The bottom line is that there’s a lot of money up for grabs. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact Mario over at the FieldReport: mariofieldreport@gmail.com

I think this a good one. Now, I wish I can earn money for inspiring others about my colorful life.
I am a great admirer of your Zen Habits blog, and I am glad you brought me here.
I suppose entries from the Philippines can be counted too.
Thanks for sharing this, really.

This is an amazing opportunity. What’s even better about it is the intention behind it (as described on the Field Report Blog) which is all about creating a place where good writers get rewarded for their work, not only in a monetary way but through receiving an audience for their work and feedback about that work in order to grow as writers. It’s a great concept and it’s definitely nice that there’s money involved as well.

Mario - Thanks for pointing to this terrific site. Had no idea that it existed.
I have registered and perused the site - even wrote my first review tonight - but I don’t see how you can tell which categories are the most competitive. I’d love to enter and would love to know which categories are lightly populated.
Suggestions?

Too late for me, just found this site today. Will you have the contest next year? I have a very compelling story of my life and would love to enter the contest.
